so this will be a sad song
but not one i haven’t heard before
it’ll be the way i crawl into bed at night
that thing i don’t want to talk about
it will leave scars
the way these things always do.
i have more than enough words
for the sadness, the pain i’m bound to feel.

but there are no words for how proud i am
and how happy i am to see you go
there isn’t a day that goes by that everything
you are doesn’t completely take my breath away
and the things that you’ll see and the person
you’ll become i can’t believe will be anything less
than amazing. 

so maybe this isn’t such a sad song
maybe this is the moment i get passed
my selfish, wide eyed needs
and simply feel grateful
that even for a moment you were on my path
that even for a moment i had you
and that now i get to see just where this leads you. 
i get to see just what you were meant for.
